Annual Dinner & Awards
A superb evening all round, and the consensus was that the Harpenden Arms was a step up on previous years in all respects. Thanks again to our social committee, Sameer and David. Rory and Bryn were missed, and thoughts were turned to wishing them both an early recovery.
John Harris was presented with the Hall Trophy Knockout Cup by The Boss, as Alex couldn't be with us on the night. The Leaderboard monetary prizes were also awarded, see the website for 1st 2nd and 3rd in RED and BLUE. Robert Andlaw made his signature late surge with a round of 35 to nick into second from fourth in RED Division. The Boss then announced that the top 3 in BLUE will move to RED next year and the bottom 3 in RED ie Pete Barwick, Young Pat Oakes and, sensationally, Pete B Ibbetson will drop to BLUE. Note the averages will continue to be calculated until the end of the year for those who play the last 2 weeks.

Gus Statto Merelie then gave his annual Christmas science lecture, confirming we were indeed as bad as we thought we were in 2019. A lot of work in those stats and some great categories which bring the website numbers to life. Good work Gus !
Presentations of bottles were made to The Boss and The Webmeister by David, along with very strict handling instructions. I've got my wine in a fire safe at home in case anyone disturbs it and amended my will in case I go before I drink it. Very much appreciated as ever, thankyou all, and to David for going the extra mile in choosing something special for us.
Alan Hall entertained us with jokes and music, always a highlight of the evening.
I left it a bit late in the evening to take pictures but there are several on the website. There is a link to the website at the bottom of this e-mail, as I'm sure you know by now. Click on Rogues Gallery and then find the folder 2019 Dinner Awards.
And finally, in other news, our resident Superman Young Pat Oakes had an unfortunate coming together between his trolley and the lake this week. The trolley was pulled out but the battery had vanished. Not to be deterred, the following morning Pat returned fully kitted out to recover it.
