Dark clouds loomed over the golf course as the north and south teams arrived for this long and eagerly awaited clash. Would the north with all their pre match bragging prevail or would the south put them in their place. Some late injury / illness withdrawals caused some personnel changes as St Albans became the North / South divide.
The morning foursomes, played off scratch proved a great hit and the scores were tied at 4 all.

An imbalance of players in the afternoon meant Capt Keith challenging a brace of Northerners going out as a 3 ball alongside the 15 singles matches – many close outcomes were in evidence that went the full distance.
As the daylight started to wane the early finishers armed with well earned liquid refreshment watched as the last 2 groups came home on the 18th and 9th greens.
The singles match scores were really close as there was only 1 point in it so the morning team scores really mattered. When the dust had settled the Northern (&ROW) team had won the singles by the slimmest of margins 8.1/2 to 7.1/2. The Ryder Cup trophy was presented to JC for safe keeping and the South Capt is still trying to work out why he agreed to have the morning matches played off scratch!
